Do you need evidence of why Heading for Home is one of the most successful regional affordable housing coalitions in New Hampshire? See the summary of our accomplishments below.

Heading for Home is leading the way to additional affordable housing for people who work. Here is what have we been doing?

Since late 2002 our Regional Housing Coalition, Heading for Home, has been hard at work researching, educating and busting myths associated with affordable housing. In addition to the countless hours spent organizing and leading the coalition by its dedicated boards and staff, Heading for Home has achieved the following,

Educated thousands of individuals, businesses, community leaders and organizations about the economic need for and benefits of having a balanced supply of affordable housing.

Facilitated the public screening of the film Communities and Consequences, a documentary based upon a book of the same name. This book and film clearly frame the problem that an inadequate supply of affordable housing will cause in a community. The author of the book, Peter Francese, attended the screening and led an important post-film discussion. Dozens of community leaders took part.

Produced an annual Business Leaders Breakfast. Underwritten by several local businesses, these breakfasts feature prominent speakers knowledgeable in the field of Affordable, Workforce Housing. These free breakfast events have drawn hundreds of participants and significantly helped to convey the messages put forth by Heading for Home.

Collaboration upon and organization of several Housing Workshops attended by hundreds of individuals that brings the voice and work of Heading for Home directly to local community leaders and business representatives.

Provided a unified, consistent and honest voice in explaining and reacting to the need for a more balanced supply of housing for the region.

Disseminated a wealth of information in the midst of an emotional climate. Heading for Home has managed to provide a voice that works to overcome the biases, untruths and misinformation often associated with the development of Affordable, Workforce Housing.

Advocated for the development of additional, sustainable, well planned affordable housing in the region. Since its formation, hundreds of units of affordable housing affordable to the area’s most needy citizens have been created in the Monadnock Region. Unfortunately much more is necessary.

Organized, through the local Chambers of Commerce, the business community to help understand that the need for a more balanced supply of affordable housing has a direct impact upon local businesses - both large and small.

Visited several local Planning Boards and Boards of Selectmen’s meetings to educate our local leaders about the mission and message of Heading for Home.

Participated in numerous local and statewide discussions, gatherings, meetings, panel presentations, etc. such as Cheshire Medical Center’s Vision 2020 effort as well as the City of Keene’s Visioning Process.
